Sugarcane growers to stall Minister's I-Day programme
Mysore, Aug 5 (UNI) Sugarcane growers in Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts today threatened to stall the flag hoisting ceremony on August 15 by district incharge Minister D T Jayakumar for not coming to their rescue in fixing support price for their produce.
Speaking to newspersons here, Sugarcane Farmers Association President Kurabur Shanthakumar alleged that the Government was not taking any step to solve their problems despite their repeated requests and protests.
Some of the farmers even threatened to commit suicide in front of the Minister during the ceremony.
Mr Shanthakumar said the sugarcane farmers of both the districts would take out a procession at Nanjangud on August ten and called for Nanjangud bandh on August 13. Besides, all roads leading to Nanjangud would be blocked on that day.
He urged the Members of Parliament from Karnataka to take up the issue with the Union Government to fix sugarcane price regularly.
