Srinagar-Jammu highway reopens partially
Srinagar, Aug 5: Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway reopened partially this morning after remaining closed yesterday due to landslides and mudslides, triggered by heavy rains between Ramban and Ramsu.
Official sources said that all the stranded passenger vehicles were allowed to leave towards their respective destinations after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the only road linking the valley with the rest of the country, cleared the landslides on the road.
However, trucks loaded with essential commodities and fruits are still stranded at different points on either side of the highway, sources said.
They said only passenger vehicles were allowed to leave Srinagar and Jammu this morning. However, only trucks from Jammu will be allowed to proceed towards Srinagar today to avoid any unfortunate incident.
