Son burns mother to death

Nagpur, Aug 5 (UNI) A 58-year-old woman here was allegedly burnt to death by her son on demand of her gold Mangalsutra mortgaged by him, police said.

Police said, the deceased, identified as - Chandrakala Ashok Burde, resident of Wanre layout in Kalamna here was allegedly burnt to death yesterday by her son Leeladhar Ashok Burde (36). Leeladhar had stolen Chandrakala's 'Mangalsutra' and mortgaged it to repay the loans taken by him from different persons of his locality.

Yesterday when Chandrakala came to know that Leeladhar had mortgaged her Mangalsutra, she demanded it back. Leeladhar, who was in an inebriated condition, angered by this, poured kerosene on Chandrakala and set her afire.

The neighbours admitted Chandrakala in the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Leeladhar has been absconding, police added.
