Refund rules liberalised by railways

Chennai, Aug 5 (UNI) The Railway Ministry has liberalised the refund rules with effect from August 1 this year.

An official release here today said in respect of untravelled reserved tickets, the time limit for surrendering tickets for levying flat cancellation charges under this rule was revised as ''more than 24 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train'', instead of one day in advance of the scheduled departure of the train excluding the date of journey.

For untravelled reserved tickets, the time limit for surrendering tickets for levying 25 per cent cancellation charges under this rule has been revised as ''within 24 hours and upto four hours before the scheduled departure, instead of one day in advance, excluding the date of journey and upto four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.

It said refund at destination station for lower class travel would be granted if the ticket along with the conductor guard, TTE certificate was presented within two days of the date of the issue of the certificate (excluding the date of issue). Hither, to a printed certificate had to be produced from the travelling ticket examiner, along with the journey ticket, within 20 hours of the train's arrival at the destination station.

The release said a duplicate ticket before preparation of the reservation chart would be issued on collection of only the prescribed non-refundable clerkage charge per passenger.

There was no change in the rules for issue of duplicate tickets after preparation of reserved charts. Hitherto, the passengers were allowed to travel on the reservation made, after paying the prescribed charges for the issue of a duplicate ticket.

''Consequently, the existing rules governing refunding of duplicate ticket charges at the destination station stands withdrawn'', he added.
