Rains boost hydel power generation in Gujarat
Surat, Aug 4 (UNI) Heavy rains in South Gujarat has helped in stepping up the hydel power generation in the State.
Water level in the Ukkai Dam rose to 334.81 ft this morning and most of the water is being diverted for power generation, sources said.
District collector Vatsala Vasudev has allayed fears and said the increase in the water level does not pose any danger. ''Water in Ukkai dam is much below the danger level and there is nothing to worry,'' Ms Vasudev said.
Water level in the Tapi river was recorded at 2.20 meters, whereas the danger level is 9.50 m. The rains showed signs of abating in Surat district with only Vyara taluka experiencing rains today.
