Rainfall eludes UP
Lucknow, Aug 5 (UNI) Rainfall eluded most parts of Uttar Pradesh, which, however, remained draped in monsoon clouds during the day.
Varanasi and Faizabad divisions received light showers in the last 24 horrs, the weather department said.
Meanwhile, one cm rainfall each occurred in Paliakala and Rae Bareli.
Light to medium rainfall is likely in Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Agra and Jhansi divisions, including Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Sultanpur, Hardoi, Bahraich, Barabanki, Gonda, Faizabad, Basti and Gorakhpur districts.
Central Water Commission (CWC) said major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Ken, Gomti, Sharda, Ghagra, Rapti and Gandak are flowing above the red mark.
Sharda in Paliakala is flowing above the red mark, while Ghagra in Ayodhya is continuously rising.
A report from Barabanki said land erosion in turbulent Ghagra has posed danger to embankments.
