Nathpa remains closed

Shimla, Aug 5 (UNI) The 1500 MW Nathpa-Jhakri hydel power project in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh remained closed for the third day today as the silt level in the reservious continues to remain high, a company official today said.

Even though the silt level came down marginally but was still above the 15,000 parts per million (ppm) as against a permissible limit of 4,000 ppm.

The spokesman said the water discharge in the reservior was also high at 1,350 cumecs against a normal discharge of 500 to 600 cumecs.

The suspension of power to save the turbines and other heavy machines was causing a loss of about nine crore to the Central and the State government, which has 25 per cent stake in it.
