Monsoon revives in Kolhapur Dist

Kolhapur, Aug 5 (UNI) With the monsoon becoming active once again after a brief lull in the district from today, the normal life in the city was affected.

The incessant rains started this morning and are lashing the district till now, resulting in the rise of water-level in rivulets and rivers.

Last week, the monsoon fury had caused flooding in large number of villages in the district. The situation was returning to normal in the last two days, but now the revival of monsoon has spread panic among the people.

Although the flood water has receded in Shirol tehsil of the district, there has been no change in the situation in four villages, which remain marooned.

The water level of the Panchaganga river near Kurundwad bridge is flowing at 64 feet, two feet lower than yesterday's. The water-level in the Rajapur weir has dipped to 51.5 feet from 53.6 feet, but at Kasaba-Bavada it has slightly gone up today, a source in the District Collectorate said.

About 46,934 cusecs water was discharged from the Koyana dam today, while from other dams Warna 3,788 cusecs, Radhanagari 3,200 cusecs, Dudhganga 3,700 cusecs were discharged, he added.
