MLA Lilothia granted bail
New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) A city court today granted bail to of Baljeet Nagar Assembly MLA Rajesh Lilothia.
The court had yesterday sent him to Tihar jail for not appearing before it despite a Non-Bailable Warrant(NBW) issued against him.
After hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau granted him bail after furnishing a fresh bail bond of Rs 15000 and a surety of the like amount.
''The accused is a public person and an elected representative of the people. He needs to be more responsible towards the judicial institution. The manner in which he had been absenting himself frequently trying to influence the court after he was taken into custody. Public figures should not even think of doing such things.
Courts are required to be left alone to function in a free, fair and impartial manner,'' the magistrate said in her order.
The court also ordered him to not to seek any exemption till the framing of charge.
On June 2001, Mr Lilothia along with 100 party workers had staged a protest at the Raisina road against the ''Tehelka'' expose despite imposition of Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The court had issued a NBW against Mr Lilothia on August 1, 2006, but he had failed to appear in the court.
