KoPT to acquire land for development through soil dumping
Kolkata, Aug 05 (UNI) Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) has earmarked Rs 50 crore initially to acquire around 2,500 acres of land in the Jeddigram-Nandigram area in West Bengal to develop barren tracts for industrial operations through dumping of dredged soil.
The port trust plans to acquire more land and take the total number of acquired land to 10000 acres for land development by dumping dredged soil in future.
"We have asked for 1100 acres of land in the Jeddigram-Nandigram area from the state government in the first phase for soil dumping purposes. The land will be acquired by the state government according to rules and regulations," KoPT chairman A.K.Chanda told reporters here today.
KoPT presently has 11,000 acres of land in Kolkata and Haldia.
The Port Trust is planning to revalue the land with the help of consultants.
KoPT introduced web-based Geographical Information System (GIS) for effective estate management to increase revenue from land owned by it.
