ITIs in Haryana to start driving certification course

Chandigarh, Aug 5 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to start driving training certification courses in all the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of the state to ensure systematic and meticulous training to the driving license applicants.

The ITIs have been authorised to involve reputed private vehicle manufacturers in conducting this course.

It has also been decided to decentralise the process of issuance of driving licenses for the convenience of general public.

These decisions were taken in the review meeting of Transport Department held today under the chairmanship of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The ITIs imparting training in driving would also be delegated the powers of licensing authority to issue driving licenses.

Similarly, the decision to permit the driver training institutes of Haryana Roadways operating from the towns of Karnal, Murthal, Gurgaon, Rohtak and Hisar to issue heavy vehicle driving licenses after successful completion of the driving training course was also taken in the meeting.

It was also decided in the meeting to start a new Haryana Roadways Driving Training School for heavy vehicles from Mahendergarh. Two model driving training schools at Bahadurgarh and Kaithal would soon be opened by associating Maruti Udyog and Ashoka Leyland.

It was also informed in the meeting that the resource mobilisation of the transport department after the rationalisation of the motor vehicle tax had increase substantially.

In the first quarter of current financial year, the department was able to generate Rs 98 crore as against the annual target of Rs 160 crore. During the same period Haryana Roadways contributed to the state exchequer a sum of Rs 28.98 crore and the profit before tax for the same period was Rs 25.24 crore.
