''The broad objectives of these schemes are to promote development and adaptation of appropriate technology, transfer proven technologies through capacity building and skill development among women,'' said according to Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal.

The Ministry has also instituted a Fellowship Scheme for women scientists under which 200 fellowships are awarded every year to outstanding women scientists in basic and applied sciences and application of technology for rural development.

The government has also set up a Task Force for Women in Science to look into issues pertaining to women scientists.

Last year, the Ministry sanctioned 48 projects in technology areas like women's health and nutrition, Information Technology, post-harvest technologies, aquaculture and sustainable utilization of natural resources.

''A large number of women are benefitted directly and indirectly by these schemes in different parts of the country, specially in rural areas and among tribal and Scheduled Caste population,'' says Mr Sibal.
