Fifty-one students to get degress at NMI's Convocation
New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) Fifty-one students -- four Ph.D scholars and 47 for completing the Masters course -- will be awarded degrees at the 9th Convocation of the National Museum Institute (NMI) on Monday.
Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni, who is Chancellor of the NMI, a deemed university, will preside over the event.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Sukhadeo Thorat, who will be the chief guest, will deliver the Convocation Address.
Renowned art historian and Padma Bhusan awardee Lokesh Chandra will be the guest of honour.
Mr. Badal Kumar Das, Secretary (Culture), will deliver the Presidential Address.
On the occasion, a book, titled 'Restoration of Indian Miniature Paintings', authored by Mr K K Gupta, will be released.
The NMI was set up as a Deemed University in 1989 with an objective of imparting study, training and research in different branches of History of Art, Conservation and Museology.
It conducts Ph.D and M.A. courses in three disciplines -- History of Art, Conservation and Museology. The Institute collaborates with other national institutions to share the material, curatorial/technical expertise and facilities, besides bringing out publications on these subjects.
The NMI also conducts three short-term courses of five months' duration each in Art and Culture and Art Appreciation in Hindi and English.
