Election postponed due to heavy rains

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 5 (UNI) Elections in 23 Gram Panchayats today were postponed in Amalapuram division which was badly affected by heavy rains.

According to district Election Authority and Collector, Subramanyam here the election will be held tomorrow as per schedule.

The State Election Commission has empowered the district poll authorities in the state under the provision of Article 243K of Constitution of India to postpone election after review and report the names of panchayats where the poll was postponed due to heavy rains as the communications to those villages were totally disrupted rendering it impossible to hold the poll.

The new polling dates would be announced in consultation with SEC, he added.
