Commonwealth Archery Champs in November: Mukherjee
Jamshedpur, Aug 05 (UNI) Jharkhand Archery Association(JAA) president Dr T Mukherjee today said the Commonwealth Archery Championship will be held at JRD Tata sports complex here in November this year.
Speaking during felicitation of the Jharkhand archers for winning medals at the second Asian Circuit Archery Championship, Dr Mukherjee said the technical delegate of the championship Jim Larven from Australia would visit here to see the venue, accommodation and other arrangements by the end of this month and give his feed back to the FITA international body.
He said teams like Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Fiji, Great Britain, Wales and Ireland had already expressed desire to participate in the championship.
''India's chances of annexing gold in both Recurve and Compound sections are bright for the prestigious championship'' Mr Mukherjee said.
He said JAA is also planning to hold the National School Archery Championship in November-December this year under the aegis of the National School Games Federation and Ministry of Sports, Government of Jharkhand.
Mr Mukherjee felicitated Renso Purty, Paltan Hansda, Renu Swargiary, Rosie Lalrem, Niva Kerketa, Sweety Kumari, Suman Lata Murmu and Namita Yadav who were part of the Junior Indian Team (Compound and Recurve) which won four Silver and two Bronze medals held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 22 to 27.
Mr Mukherjee said these budding archers have potentials to bag Gold medals in Olympics also and the JAA and the Archery Association of India (AAI) would provide guidance to achieve the feat.
