New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the DDA, MCD and NDMC to file their reponse within four weeks to the recommendations made by Bhure Lal Committee for rationalising the parking policy for Delhi.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Mr Justice C K Thakker issued the orders after the Bhure Lal committee appointed by the Apex court submitted its report to the court making several recommendations emphasising the urgent need for multi storeyed parking in the city in view of the sharply increasing number of vehicles in the city.

At present the national capital does not have any parking policy and parking mafia has been fleecing the vehicle owners.

Unofficial and illegal parkings manned by parking mafia are virtually running the show in the city as there is utter lack of parking space in the city in view of the steep rise in the city's population which has already crossed one crore mark.

One of the most important recomendations of the committee is to make it mandatory to provide for adequate parking space in the new buildings in the city and for this purpose present building bye laws may be amended.

The new Master Plan 2021 which is in the pipeline must pay due attention to the parking problems which is assuming alraming proportions as the city has already reached a saturation point with regard to number of vehicles in the metropolis.

Ever increasing cases of vehicle thefts from unauthorised parking lots in which parking attendants have been found conniving with the vehicle lifters is another area of concern. Basement and multi layer parkings with the help of private players can help in solving the parking problem of the city.
