Rocket attacks kill three in northern Israel
JERUSALEM, Aug 4 (Reuters) Rockets fired into northern Israel by Hizbollah guerrillas in Lebanon killed at least three people and injured several today, rescue officials said.
One person died near the town of Carmiel in the Galilee region of northern Israel, the ZAKA rescue service said. Another man was severely wounded.
An earlier barrage of rockets killed two people, including a woman in a direct hit on her house in the Druze-Arab village of Maghar, the police said. The other person was killed when a rocket landed near his car on the outskirts of Kiryat Shmona, Israel's northernmost town, ZAKA said.
More than 100 rockets had landed across northern Israel in less than two hours, police said.
An army spokesman said another barrage struck the deserted Syrian town of Quneitra on the Golan Heights, with some rockets landing in Syrian territory and others landing on the side occupied by Israel.
The three civilian deaths today raised to 30 the number of people killed by rocket fire from Lebanon during the conflict.
Forty-three military personnel have been killed.
