Manufactured products push inflation to 4.67 pc

New Delhi, Aug 4: Owing to a rise in the prices of foodc articles including chicken and fruits and vegetables, manufactured products and fuel prices, the annual rate of inflation for the week ended July 22, rose to 4.67 per cent as compared to 4.52 per cent last week.

The inflation rate, calculated on point-to-point basis, stood at 4.33 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year, according to official figures released here today.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for all commodities for the week ended July 22, rose by 0.2 per cent to 204.1 from 203.7 for the previous week.

''India is taking steps to curb both 'cost-push' and 'demand-pull' inflation,'' Finance Minister P Chidambaram had said last week in Parliament.

The index for the Primary Articles group rose by 0.3 per cent to 203.4 from 202.7 for the previous week.

The index for Food Articles group rose by 0.6 per cent to 204.8 from 203.6 for the previous week due to higher prices of poultry chicken (12 per cent), fruits and vegetables (2 per cent) and masur, urad, gram and eggs (1 per cent each).

The index for Non-Food Articles group declined by 0.3 per cent to 184.1 from 184.6 for the previous week due to lower prices of logs and timber (11 per cent), raw rubber and fodder (2 per cent each) and gingelly seed, soyabean and raw jute (1 per cent each).

However, the prices of groundnut seed (3 per cent) and rape and mustard seed (1 per cent) moved up.
