Interest free educational loans distributed to 179 students

Panaji, Aug 4 (UNI) Goa Education Minister Luizinho Faleiro today distributed interest free loans to the tune of Rs 90 lakh to 179 students to help them pursue higher education.

The government, during the last fiscal 2005-06, had disbursed Rs 4.34 crore to 1033 students under the interest free educational loan scheme for encouraging bright and deserving students to pursue higher studies.

The objective of the scheme, launched in the year 2002-03, is to ensure that Goan students excelled in higher education in the competitive world, according to the Minister.

In this connection, he justified the introduction of NCERT syllabus in schools to promote quality education so that Goan students were prepared to face global competition.

The meeting was organised by the Goa Education Development Corporation in association with the Directorate of Higher Education at the new secretariat complex at Porvorim.
