New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) PanIIT, an umbrella organisation formed by a group of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Alumni, today said it has constituted a committee to quantify the techno-economic contributions made by IITians to the country.

''A committee has been formed to quantify the contributions made by the 3,00,000 IITians in nation building. The idea is to value our efforts in terms of the GDP. The committee constitutes distinguished IIT alumni,'' Mastek Chairman and IIT alumni Ashank Desai told reporters here.

The organisation also launched its fourth IIT Alumni Global Conference 2006 to be held from December 23 to December 25, in Mumbai, to be addressed by President A P J Abdul Kalam Azad.

The results of the committee are expected to be declared in December during the event.

PanIIT holds this event alternatively in India and the US, once a year. The earlier three events were held in San Jose, New Delhi and Washington. The PanIIT 2007 will be held in Santa Clara.

''This year, the conference is expected to draw 5,000 participants including representatives from companies like Google and Apple to name a few,'' Mr Desai, who is also PanIIT 2006 Chairman, said.

The event will be sponsored by 10-15 companies including the State Bank of India and Videocon Industries. The two companies have also been roped in for a global partnership programme of two years, which will cover the next events in the US as well.
