CICC call on Nepal govt to ratify ICC treaty

Kathmandu, Aug 4: The Coalition for International Criminal Court (CICC), an international network of non-governmental and civil society organisations supporting the International Criminal Court (ICC), has called on the Nepal Government to ratify the International Criminal Court (ICC) treaty and demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law and the fight against impunity, media reports said here today.

''CICC has also welcomed positive developments including the resolution passed by the House of Representatives on ratification of the ICC statute,'' The Kathmandu Post quoted a statement of the CICC as saying.

The House of Representatives had passed a resolution last week, directing the Government to ratify the Rome Statute of the ICC.

''Recent signs of democratisation would be bolstered by Nepal's joining the international Criminal Court,'' the statement quoted Evelyn Serrano, Asia Coordinator for CICC, as saying.
