Two killed in AP flash floods

Srikakulam, (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 3 (UNI) Two people were killed in flash floods due to heavy rains in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh during the past two days.

Talking to UNI here today District Collector V N Vishnu said the situation in the district was alarming , as Vamsadhara was receiving 98,000 cusecs of water from upstream and 19 of the 38 mandals faced a threat of inundation .

Mr Vishnu said the district administration has put the authorities on high alert to evacuate people in the low lying areas, if and when necessary. One death each was reported from Augoor and Pothulavalasa, due to wall collapse, he added.

Stating that the situation was under control, he said the evacuees of five villages were being accommodated in make-shift shelters and fed.
