Sangha MLA seeks President's intervention

Gangtok, Aug 3 (UNI) Sangha MLA and Sikkim Leader of Opposition Acharya Tshering Lama has urged President Abdul Kalam to intervene into the issue of the appointment the first Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state and urged him to take appropriate action.

In a letter to the President, the copy of which was released to the press here today, the lone Sangha MLA in the 32-member House apprised the President of the sorry state of affairs in the state and urged him to take necessary action.

The Acharya said Mr D K Gazmer was appointed the CIC of the state violating clause 3 section 15 of the Right to Information Act.

The Acharya also alleged that though he was a member of the three-member recommendation committee for the selection of the CIC, his views were not taken into consideration while selecting Mr Gazmer to the post.

The Acharya described the appointment of Mr Gazmer as ''illegal'' and urged the President to intervene.

Earlier, the Leader of Oppsotion had urged acting Governor R S Gavai '' not to take an executive action, which is illegal and unconstitutional '' and boycotted the swearing-in-ceremony of the CIC held here on August one in protest.

He despatched a petition to the President after the Governor did not initiate any step on his allegation and denied him an appointment to explain his points in persons.
