Post man nabbed in fraud case
Kohima, Aug 3: Kohima police has detained an employee of the main post office here yesterday in connection with attempting fraud of Rs 3,75,84,000 by one Richard Humtsoe, who is presently absconding.
Richard had managed to collect two Demand Drafts of the National Aids Control Society (NACO) amounting to Rs 8,09,26,000 sent by registered post to the Nagaland State Aids Control Society (NSACS).
He was consulting some banks in Dimapur to open an account in the name of NSACS to en-cash the Demand Drafts.
However, alertness of bank staff thwarted his attempts to missapropriate the funds.
The post office in Kohima had received the registered number of the letter containing the Demand Drafts but as per record available with the post office, there was no signature of the recipient of the letter. The arrested employee of the post office is suspected of stealing the letter containing Demand Drafts and handing it over to the accused, Richard.
Police, however, refused to divulge the name of the detained person.
Mystery continues to shroud as to how and where the letter of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare containing the Demand Drafts got lost.
Investigations were on to unravel the mystery, sources added.
