Parbhani rape and murder accused arrested in Beed

Beed, Maharashtra, Aug 3 (UNI) Rural police at Parali arrested -- Kailas Shankar Navekar (40), the prime accused in the rape and murder case of a minor girl in Parbhani district of the Marathwada region.

The accused, arrested late last night, was wanted by various police stations, such as Udgir, Latur, Beed, Ahmednagar, Deolali (Nashik), besides Parbhani rural police, in several cases of rape on minors followed by their murder.

Police at Parbhani told UNI that the accused had allegedly kidnapped a seven-year-old girl from her school on July 13. He later took her to a deserted place and allegedly killed her after raping her.

The body of the victim was found on the outskirts of Parva village in Parbhani district.

Police registered an offence against the accused on July 15.

Besides, the accused had been booked by at least five other police stations for similar kind of incidents in the last couple of years, police said.

Acting on a tip-off that the accused was to arrive at Nehru garden at Parali in Beed district last night, the rural police led a trap and arrested him.

Kailas hails from Shehenshah Nagar locality of Beed city and police were expecting him to come here since he had lost his father about 20 days ago.
