North Coastal Andhra receives heavy rainfall

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) North Coastal Andhra Pradesh received heavy rains as the deep depression over North West Bay of Bengal crossed South Orissa coast between Puri and Gopalpur this morning.

Southwest Monsoon became vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and active over Telangana. Isolated rain occurred over Rayalaseema.

Hyderabad Meteorological Department Director M Satyakumar told UNI that under the influence of the deep depression, heavy to very heavy rain falls was likely at a few places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours.

He said the system was likely to move in west-north westerly direction ''Winds with a speed of 50-60 Kmph is likely along and off North Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 18 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea as it will be very rough'', he said, adding that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall was also likely over Telangana.

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers were likely at a few places over Rayalaseema.

According to Met office, Vizianagaram recorded a very heavy rainfall of 21 CM, Ranasthalam 20, Kalingapatnam 19, Cheepurupalli 17, Palakonda 15, Bheemunipatnam and Parvathipuram 13 each, Araku Valley 12 , Veeraghattam and Venkatapuram 11 each, Bobbili, Komarada, Srungavarapukota, Kunavaram, Paderu and Tekkali ten each, Visakhapatnam, Eturnagaram, Salur and Terlam nine each, Visakhapatnam AP, Dummagudem and Kaleswaram eight each, Koida&Perur, Palasa and Patapatnam seven each.
