Furore mars municipal meeting

Villuppuram, Tamil Nadu, Aug 3 (UNI) Noisy scenes and furore marred the municipal councillors meeting at the municipality here today evening, with heated exchanges between DMK councillors and AIADMK Municipal Chairman.

According to police, the trouble began when a section of DMK councillors urged the Municipal Chairman S S Pannerselvam of AIADMK to begin the meeting.

But the chairman asked them to wait, till Municipal Commissioner Ms Mehabooba arrives.

Heated exchanges ensued between the DMK and AIADMK councillors and the councillors began destroyed mikes and chairs and threw them to opposition benches.

Meanwhile, in the tussle, Puthiya Needi Katchi Councillor Prabhu suffered a blow on his face and was admitted to hospital with bleeding nose.

Later, AIADMK members alleged that the whole scene was the handi work of certain DMK councillors, who wanted to tarnish the smooth functioning of the municipal council.

Following this, a large number of Police personnel had been deployed near the municipality to check any further incidents.
