Decision on Narayanan-Vajpayee correspondence likely tomorrow
New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The much awaited decision of the Central Information Commission (CIC) on accepting the demand of a petitioner to release the correspondence between former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the then President K R Narayanan during the Gujarat riots is likely to be pronounced tomorrow.
''The decision is ready, and it may come out tomorrow,'' a CIC source told UNI.
The petition for releasing the correspondence had been filed by one Mr Suresh from Chennai. The Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances is the respondent in the case.
He was denied information by the the CPIO on the ground that the information could threaten 'national security'.
Earlier, the panel had decided to examine the correspondence between the top functionaries to ascertain whether the documents can be made public.
However, Rashtrapati Bhawan sources said that till date no request from the Central Information Commission for releasing the correspondence had reached them.
''The request will come through the Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances, but so far, we have received no communication from the Ministry,'' the sources said.
The last hearing of the case was held on July 21, but the commission had reserved its decision.
