BJP demands ban on soft drinks

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The BJP today demanded a ban on the sale of soft drinks -- Pepsi and Coca Cola -- unless the products adhered to international standards.

The party also wanted that the government put a ban on brand ambassadors of these soft drinks also.

Reacting to reports that the drinks were found to have been containing high level of pesticides, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra here said that when advertisements on smoking could be banned, why a ban should not be imposed on display of any advertisements of these soft drinks.

At the same time, sports bodies should also not sponsor these products, he added.
