Asom heading for unprecedented drought

Guwahati, Aug 3 (UNI) Asom is heading for an unprecedented drought as the state is experiencing very little rainfall, indicating a famine in the coming days.

Official sources here said all 16 districts in lower and middle Asom and the northern bank of the Brahmaputra were experiencing very little rainfall.

The rainfall since June one has been recorded at only 634.1 mm.

Till now the state government had sanctioned only Rs 67 lakhs as drought relief to the affected and needy farmers.
