State heading for severe drought

Guwahati, Aug 3: Asom is heading for an unprecedented drought this winter as the state is experiencing very little rainfall, indicating a famine in the coming days.

Official sources here said in all sixteen districts in lower and middle Asom and the northern bank of the Brahmaputra were experiencing very little rainfall.

The rainfall since June one and till date was only 634.1 mm.

Farmers here are dependent on rain water only.

Till now the state government had sanctioned only Rs 67 lakhs as drought relief to the affected and needy farmers.
