22 scientists,engineers to be honoured

Bangalore, Aug 3 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today announced the list of scientists and engineers chosen for 22 awards for the years 2004 and 2005 for their contributions in the fields of Science and Technology and Engineering.

Disclosing the list of awardees here today, Science and Technology Minister Ramachandragowda said the awards were classified under four categories--Sir M Visvesvaraya Award for senior scientists, Sir C V Raman Award for young scientists, Prof Satish Dhawan Award for Young Engineers and Dr Kalpana Chawla Award for young women scientists.

He said Sir M Visvesvaraya awards were given to senior scientists for their lifetime achievement and contribution for the development of science and technology in the state. The award carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000, a memento and a citation.

For 2004, the awards were bagged by Prof H S Mukunda of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and Prof M R S Rao, President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore.

The awards for 2005 were not given as no one was found eligible for it, he added.

Mr Ramachandragowda said Sir C V Raman Award was given to young scientists for their outstanding acheivements in the fields of Physical Science and Mathematics, Chemical Science, Life Science, Medical Science and Agriculture Science and Animal Husbandry. The award carried a cash reward of Rs 25,000, a memento and a citation.
