Work on Noida-New Ashok Nagar Metro section begins

Noida, Aug 2 (UNI) Work on the New Ashok Nagar - Noida section of the Delhi Metro commenced today with the starting of test piling work at sector 32 in Noida.

Work on the seven-kilometer Noida - New Ashok Nagar line, part of the second phase of the metro that will span a length of 76 km, was inaugurated at a function in the presence of Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh and Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, member of the SP Parliamentary board and cousin of UP Chief Minister Ram Gopal Yadav.

Also present on the occasion of kickstarting of work on the Noida - New Ashok Nagar section, being constructed by the Delhi Metro in joint collaboration with the Noida authority, were the CEO of the authority Sanjiv Saran along with several top officials of the authority.

Later, speaking at a public meeting in Sector 18, Mr Singh announced that the line would be later extended by four Km to Sector 62, the construction of which would be funded entirely by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The construction work on the line will involve making holes in the ground and constructing concrete piles or pillars every 1 kilometre.

To be built at a cost of Rs 736 crore, of which the Uttar Pradesh government will spend Rs 643 crore, the line will have six stations - starting from New Ashok Nagar and passing through Sector 15, 16, 18, botanical garden, golf course and ending at the city centre in sector 32.

The section will be divided into two stretches. While the first stretch of about 3.28 km - from New Ashok Nagar to Sector 18 - will have stations at Sectors 15, 16 and 18, the 3.7-km second stretch will have stations at Botanical Garden, Golf Course and the last one at City Centre at Sector 32.

The construction work will begin tomorrow with test piling work near City Centre in Sector 32.

The DMRC and the Uttar Pradesh government had signed an agreement for the construction of the line, that will connect the national capital with the IT capital of Uttar Pradesh in April 2006, following which soil testing work was completed on the stretch.
