Wipro and Motorola launch 'WMNetServ'

Mumbai, Aug 2: Wipro and Motorola entered into a joint venture (JV) today to deliver world-class capabilities in managed services to public and private network customers. Named as 'WMNetServ', the JV aims at delivering outsourced telecom services to help customers focus on their core business and gain access to capabilities not available internally.

Talking to mediamen after the launch, Corporate Vice President of Motorola, Kannankote Srikanth said, ''The combined strength of Wipro and Motorola gives 'WMNetServ', a significant competitive advantage in managed services.'' Talking about the capital investment to be made in the joint venture, Wipro COO (Chief Operating Officer) Dr A L Rao disclosed that nearly 20 million USD would be invested in the JV over a period of three years by both the companies. However, he didn't disclose in what proportion the two companies would put their money into the venture.

Making a presentation on the occasion, Wipro general manager Jayanta Dey, who will be heading the new venture, informed that the website, which was launched on the occasion, would offer a host of services to the customers some of which include business consulting, data migration, process consulting, network planning and others. Later he told UNI that we are working on a four-year business plan in this connection.

On the target customers for the venture, Motorola Vice President Amit Sharma said that it will target global telecom service providers and the government and enterprise market for service delivery. Also, the venture will host a global network operation centre platform in North America and Europe to provide 24/7 network monitoring capabilities to customers.
