Rs 26,808cr for infrastructure development in Delhi before CW Games

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Delhi Finance, Planning, Urban Development and PWD Minister A K Walia today said more than Rs 26,800 crore will be spent on infrastructure development in the capital before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

He said after chairing a high-level meeting to finalise various schemes related to Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), schemes under special assistance for the Commonwealth Games and schemes related to state plan budget.

More than Rs 26,800 crore would be spent by different agencies for infrastructure development such as construction of 25 flyovers, Road Over Bridges, Road Under Bridges, road tunnel, multi-level automated car parkings, low cost housing, development of roads, commissioning of HCBs, Light Rail Transit (LRT) System, Monorail, development of ISBTs, re-development of Connaught Place, old city heritage area, augmentation of storm water drainage, water and sewerage sectors, purchase of air-conditioned buses, improvement of stadias under Delhi government, Dr Walia added.

Utilisation of entire amount of Rs 26,808 crore would go a long way in making Delhi a world-class city. Out of the total, an amount of Rs 770 crore would be released as special assistance for the Commonwealth Games while Rs 19,829 crore would be released under JNNURM for implementation of various schemes of approved city development plan for five years.

Delhi government would spend Rs 6,209 crore under its state plan for development of infrastructure in the city Delhi before the Commonwealth Games.

Dr Walia had directed all agencies concerned to render constructive cooperation in holding interactive sessions to give final touches to schemes under JNNURM to enable the state government to submit a detailed City Development Proposal (CDP) before the Union Urban Development Ministry.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary (UD), Transport Commissioner and senior officers from Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Jal Board, Public Works Department and Health and Delhi Development Authority.
