Rent a monument

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Heritage monuments could host cultural events to raise funds for their own restoration if a government initiative finds support from environmentalists and heritage lovers.

The government will organise a meeting with all the stakeholders to work out a consensus on the issue, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni said.

The issue needs to be dealt with in a ''flexible'' manner, she told the 32nd meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology here.

The contributions to the National Culture Fund have not matched the growing interest and awareness for protection and restoration of monuments, she said.

The government would support collaborative work between Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and foreign agencies, Ms Soni said adding ASI would have to upgrade restorative work in the face of rapid strides in technology.
