Police open fire to disperse rival groups

Kadapa, Aug 2 (UNI) Police opened two rounds of fire in the air to disperse clashing rival groups at Atlur mandal, during the second phase of Panchayat elections, which began in 17 mandals of Rajampet Revenue Division in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh today.

Police here said two rival Congress groups clashed at Kamalkur village. As Sub Inspector (SI) of police Nagabhushanam who was trying to disperse the mob, failed to control the situation, police opened fire in the air. In the group clash, the SI received minor injuries.

Tension prevailed at Kamalakur where atleast 200 supporters of Badval constituency MLA were staged a dharna, police added.

However, the polling stopped at Bramamkarrimatham in Thotapalli village as tension prevailed where large number of voters gathered at the polling booth. The situation was brought under control.
