Mobs clash over minor issue in Beed

Beed, Maharashtra, Aug 2 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Dharur town, about 40 km away from here, after two groups clashed over a dispute arising out of the issue of displaying religious flags atop few shops adjoining a place of worship.

The trouble started in the morning when one of the groups objected to the hoisting of such flags, police sources said.

The situation took a violent turn and the two groups resorted to stone pelting, police said. The clashing groups even damaged some public property, police said.

District superintendent of police Santosh Rastogi has rushed to the troubled town and the State Reserve Police (SRP) has been deployed.

Police have detained about 15 persons in this connection so far.

Meanwhile, local public representatives took out a peace procesion in the town to assist the police in restoring normalcy, police said.
