New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Minister of State for Family Welfare and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury today introduced the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Amendment Bill, 2005, which envisages more flexibility in the adoption rules and provisions to contain juveniles drifting into crime.

Moving the Bill in the Lok Sabha, the minister said by 2020, India would have the largest number of juveniles in the world.

''We will have the largest young and productive work force in the world. So it is paramount that we give priority to their care and protection.'' If the nation did not care about their well-being, they might take to crime, which will be dangerous for the future of the country, she said.

The Minister also called upon the media not give ''undue publicity'' and avoid identifying the juveniles if they happened to have committed any crime.

''Besides, all efforts have to be made to ensure that they are not sent behind the bars or put in lock-ups. They must be kept in the juvenile homes," she added.
