Jabalpur SIMI office being sealed

Jabalpur, Aug 2: A local SIMI office is being sealed after more than Rs 2 lakh were seized following the interrogation of two SIMI activists who were remanded to police custody.

They were apprehended along with seven others here on July 30.

''The arrests were executed in Gohalpur locality on the basis of particulars revealed by SIMI worker Imran Ansari who was apprehended following the 7/11 Mumbai transit terror assault,'' City SP Rakesh Singh said today.

All the accused were presented in court on July 31. Sarfaraz Ahmad and Sarfaraz Ansari were remanded to police custody until August 4 while the others were remanded to judicial custody.

''Ahmad and Ansari collected about Rs 2.65 lakh and handed it over to a property dealer for purchasing an office building for SIMI. The duo also revealed that their associates Mohammad Ali and Shakeel -- residents of Gohalpur's Azad Nagar -- were absconding after learning of Sunday's police action,'' the officer added.

A search of the duo's residences resulted in seizing of a few dairies, containing several names and addresses, besides documents.

Police suspected that the names were of SIMI members in surrounding districts.
