HC observation on disappearance of Meerut's ex-mayor
Allahabad, Aug 2 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has observed that the affidavit of Meerut SSP Navneet Sikera about not being able to trace ex-mayor Arun Kuma Jain speaks volume about the competence of police in apprehending influential persons, implicated in white collar crimes.
Making the observation, Justice Sunil Ambwani said the affidavit showed he did not make effective efforts to trace out Mr Jain's whereabouts.
The HC said, the explanation that Mr Jain was not living in Meerut and could not be traced was absurd, since he was a prominent citizen, had been mayor twice and was running a company.
Earlier, hearing a winding up petition, the court issued bailable warrants, which could not be served.
Thus, non-bailable warrant was issued and for a long time police could not apprehend Mr Jain. Later, the court had directed the SSP to appear in person and to file his affidavit.
