Haryana's top brass to evolve strategy to counter terrorism

Chandigarh, Aug 2 (UNI) Top civil and police officals of Haryana will meet in New Delh on August 12 to chalk out a strategy and a road-map for countering terrorism in the National Capital Region (NCR) and in the districts lying in the vicinity of the national capital.

The meeting has been convened by Chief Secretary Prem Prashant and will be attended by state Home Secretary, Director General of Police and Inspector Generals of Police of the concered ranges besides the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Sonipat, Panipat, Rohtak, Faridabad and Gurgaon districts.

Interacting with mediaperson here today, Mr Prashant said the officers of RAW and Intelligence Bureau would interact with the state officers to chalk out a strategy for installation of CCTV and X-ray machines in the crowded areas and Shopping Malls in places like Gurgaon and Faridabad.

He revealed that at the recent meeting of the Chief Secretaries of all states he had emphasised on tackling the menace of terrorism by adopting modern technology and skills as the terrorists presently were using new methods to commit heinous crimes. He said terrorists were now engaging the local people to execute the crime.

He said two things had been made compulsory in the districts, first to apprise the police about the tenants and secondily to verify the antecedents of servants. He opined that public announcement should be made frequently at public places like bus stands, railway stations and cinema halls to generate an awakening among the people against terrorism.

He said police forces were being strengthened in the state to meet the challenges posed by terrorists. He said the Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon had already directed the owners of Shopping Malls to instal close circuit cameras to keep a close watch on anti-social elements. He also stressed on sensitising the security forces and general public.
