Gujarat asscesses flood damages

Anand, Aug 2 (UNI) As rains receded today in Central Gujarat, 150 teams have been formed in Anand district to assess the damages caused by floods in the past three days, district Collector D G Jalavadia said.

At least 2622 houses have been damaged and 78, 660 hectares of kharif crops destroyed, he said. Losses incurred by the industry have gone upto Rs 11.5 crores.

A total of 90 animals have died during the floods. He said 61 medical teams will work to prevent epidemics and 16 teams for animal welfare.

He said 1,55,000 food packets and one lakh pouches have been air-dropped in Khambat, Tarapur and Sojitra areas, where flood waters have played havoc.

Short-distance diesel trains which run from Anand to Khambhat now go upto Petlad only as tracks have been washed away near Panoli.

Functioning of the Dhuvaran power station, which runs on oil, has been affected as the DMU train from Vasad to Kathana has been cancelled, officials said.
