Fire mishap case adjourned to Aug 22

Kumbakonam, Aug 2 (UNI) The Kumbakonam fire mishap case, in which 94 school children were killed, was today adjourned to August 22.

When the case came up for hearing, Kumbakonam Judicial Magistrate (JM) Kinsley Christopher adjourned the case and directed all the 24 accused to appear before the Court on that day, when they would be told in which court the trial would be conducted.

All the accused were present in the court when the matter came up for hearing.

During the last hearing on July 12, the Magistrate had committed the case to the Sessions Court in Thanjavur for trial.

The Sessions court would decide in which court the trial proceedings would be held.

The chargesheet in the case was filed on July seven last year citing 490 witnesses and 60 documents.

Ninetyfour school children, aged between eight and ten, were charred to death, several of them beyond recognition, in the fire that raged through the Sri Krishna Girls High School complex housing primary, middle and high schools on July 16, 2004.
