Explosives seized at stone Quarries: two held
Madurai, Aug 2 (UNI) A special police team seized a large cache of explosives near a hillock abutting stone quarries at Keela Kadaneri and Thevankurichi villages under T.Kallupatti police limits in Madurai district and arrested two persons in this connection late last night.
Police said today that the Special Team nabbed the duo, S Mayalagan (47) of Panniyan and S Ramalingam (60) of Nilaiyur, during a raid on stone quarries, following a tip off and effected the seizure.
The seizure included over 600 detonators, 1200 electric detonators, 1600 kg of explosives and 1600 kg of ammonium nitrate, other chemicals and safety fuse coils.
While the arrested were produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded last night itself, the seized materials were submitted in the court earlier today.
All the accused were charged with stocking explosives without valid license.
It is being investigated whether the accused had any link with terrorist groups, police said.
Three other accused, including the proprietor of a quarry and an agent for explosives, were still at large and a search has been launched to apprehend them, police added.
