Agartala, Aug 2 (UNI) Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has stressed the need for a dental and nursing college in the state.

Speaking at the first foundation day of the Agartala government Medical College (AGMC) celebration programme here last night, Mr Sarkar said, ''We have got two medical colleges and one NIT. But we do not have a dental and nursing college.'' The Chief Minister warned the AGMC students of stiff competition from Tripura Medical College (TMC) students.

It may be mentioned that the TMC is the first medical college in the country, started with Public Private Partnership (PPP).

Mr Sarkar also revelaed that he has requested the Centre to give Tripura University the status of Central University.

''The issue has been listed for discussion in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. Hopefully Tripura University will be a Central University very soon,'' Mr Sarkar said.
