BSF seize huge quantity of smuggled goods

Agartala, Aug 2 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) today seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods worth about Rs 13 lakhs from Jainagar area closed to the international border in the wee hours today.

According to BSF sources the smuggled items were meant to be delivered to Bangladesh.

''Receiving specific information from sources, we laid a trap and was able to seize 380 bottles of phensydyl worth Rs 30,000, Gujarati sarees worth about Rs 12 lakhs. The culprits had managed to escape into the neighbouring country,'' a top BSF official said.

He further added that the market value of phensydyl is much higher in Bangladesh.

Another patrolling party of the same battallion has seized a motorbike, which was about to be smuggled to Bangladesh from Nishintapur area.

Meanwhile, two illegal immigrants were arrested by the BSF when they were trying to cross the border without valid documents, sources added.
