Breach of privilege notice against CM rejected

Chennai, Aug 2 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker R Avudaiyappan today rejected the breach of privilege notice given by an opposition AIADMK woman member against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio.

Giving his verdict on the notice given by Ms Bader Sayeed, the Speaker said ''the AIADMK members were evicted only on my orders as they continued to disrupt the proceedings.

''They did not cooperate with the marshals and were forcibly evicted. There was no breach of privilege. There will be no more discussion on this,'' he added.

In her notice, Ms Sayeed said she was subjected to harassment on July 31 under the guise of eviction by the ''people in white.'' ''My toes were swollen and the marshalls manhandled me. I am speaking not for me alone. I am speaking on behalf of all the women members, irrespective of the party they belonged to,'' she said and appealed to the members to maintain the honour and dignity of the House, following which the Speaker gave his ruling.
