BJP refutes charges on religious campaign
Hyderabad, Aug 2: BJP State General Secretary K Laxman today refuted the charges made by the Congress and the CPI that the BJP was behind the religious campaign at Tirumala and other holy places in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a press confernce here, Dr Laxman said the Congress was making baseless allegations against the BJP only to 'cover its mistakes.' The government had not taken any action against the religious campaign undertaken by some minority communities for the last six months at Tirumala, Bhadrachalam and Simhachalam temples, he claimed. Though everyone had the freedom to propgate his or her religion, none should hurt the sentiments of those belonging to other religions.
He also demanded the government to approach the High Court for permission for Ganesh idol immersion in Hussain Sagar to respect the the religious sentiments of the people in the city.
Dr Laxman said Hussain Sagar's pollution was caused by the continuous discharge of effluents from industries around the city and not due to idol immersion.
