BARC to celebrate Apsara reactor's golden jubilee on Aug 4

Mumbai, Aug 2 (UNI) Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has organised a function on Friday to celebrate the golden jubilee of 'Apsara' nuclear reactor here.

The country's first nuclear reactor went critical on August 4, 1956, marking the beginning of the success story of Indian nuclear programme. To commemorate the golden jubilee, BARC has planned a half-day function at the Central Complex Auditorium, according to an official release here today.

On the occasion, a commemorative booklet on Apsara will be released by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Chairman S K Sharma.

The function will be attended by prominent personalities like Chairman and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, S K Jain Chief Executive, Heavy Water Board S C Hiremath, and Chairman and Managing Director of Uranium Corproation of India Limited, R Gupta the release added.
